hey guys, i'm having some serious issues with my mbuna and i'm hoping i can get some advice... my bumblebee (considerably bigger than all the other fish) has a big white bump on his bum, and he is Extreamly pissed off and terrorizing his tankmates. this happened about a month ago and it resulted in a casuality, and i don't want the same to happen again. i guess my first question is what is the white thing ( i thought mabey eggs, but i don't think there are any potential mates), and how do i get rid of it? and 2; how do i keep the bumble bee from killing someone?
please help...
thanx,
-j.

exactly where is it located...is it protruding from the anus? does that area look swollen? are you sure that it's a male and not a female with an extended ovipositor?

what is an "extended ovipositor"? i'm not really sure if it's a m or f, but i think it's probably a female. and yes, it's protruding and a little swollen... and my johanni (m i think) is getting one too. there both acting like total *******s and i think they want my kenny dead. i put the bumble bee in a 'holding tank' for the time being, but i'm not too sure what to do now. do cichlids have 'that time of the month'?

p.s.
can a bumble bee and a johanni mate? (if so, what do ya think there kids'll look like?) ... and if so, how do we keep them from doing so?

 :rofl2:  your 'that time of the month' remark cracked me up! any fish from lake malawi can interbreed and there's really nothing that you can do to prevent it except separate them. i don't stress about it...i just let them spit into the tank where most of them get eaten anyway. just don't distribute the hybrid fry. the ovipositor is the egg duct which when extended looks like a white bump...it's where the eggs drop from. i think that males sometimes have a less prominent genital protrusion during spawning. it sounds like that's what's going on in your tank. what else have you got in the tank?
