View Full Version : Am I ever confused.
I got the latest copy of the bargain finder and have another option for a tank.
A lady has a 250 gallon tank 10 years old that she has had a snake in. It is 7 feet tall and encased in oak. Very nice. $250.
Only problem is that it is 3/4 inch thick glass and weighs a ton. She says you could have to get piano movers to move the thing and with a reptile in it I wonder about leak. 250 gallon with a leak is not a good day.
My other option is the 180 with filters, heaters etc, with the stand I do not like. I could lift this with another guy. This tank is 7 years old and constructed in switzerland. It is a good tank.
I do not know what to do. Help me out folks.
Compromise and buy them both...
I'm such a bad influence.

No matter which tank you buy (I vote for both too :D ) Re-seal it. I do this with "any" used tank over 20 gallons that I buy. Even on a large tank, it's only a one day project that will cost you no more that $20. If done right, it will restore the tank to practically brand new condition, as the silicone is really the only thing that ages. I have tanks over 20 years old. I just re-seal them every five years or so, and have gotten quite good at it. Let me know if you want some tips on how to do it 8) Scott

since you have to give up the poopy pooch--i think it's only fair that you should be allowed to have both tanks.

AND all the fish reqirued to properly stock them as well
I bought the 180. i am not having a 250 break in my basement. I just couldn't handle it.
I am pretty happy with it. I am putting it against a 7 foot wall keep the stand I have. The dimensions are 78.5 by 21.5 by 24 for the tank. So it is pretty big and beautiful.
Peuter finish on all sides and stand. It is lighted by a peuter canopy with 3 36 inch flourescent strip lights.
I am a happy camper.
By the way Gypsie my wife broke down and we get to keep the poopy dog. Good thing, because I am going to have to get something to kick start the cycling of the sucker.

My 180 is set up I sold my 90 and my 66 is going to the office tuesday for my jags.
Almost couldn't get the sucker down the stairs took 4 guys. Darn spiral staircase. No leaks nothing broke.
Productive weekend I would say.
I am going to filter with 3 ac 500s heat with 2 ebos in there. Light with 4 36 inch tubes. Nice looking peuter tank. I am pumped. I even like the stand. Now I can put away the step ladder!

Rudy congrats on the tank, I still like the price of the 250g encased in oak, too bad you can't use that one also, thats a 600.00 to 800.00 tank here in the states :)
Scotty any tips on the silicone will help I've got 6 tanks to do eventually.
Do you ducttape the tank? or is the top and bottom molding good enough to hold it all together? Do you take the whole tank apart and clean all the glass edges?
Ya I am still pissing and moaning about the 250 but if a deal sounds to good to be true it probably is. She had a snake in there and still has not sold it.
The glass on my 180 is pretty scratched which I didn't realize until I filled it up, but what can you do. It is still a good deal. When you see it when I can find my picture downloading connection I think everyone will be pretty impressed. I am any way.
