have a Syno Eupterus( at least I think it's a Eupterus)about 4-5" long. I recently noticed white blotches, NOT spots in the area betweem it's mouth and the eye level(where I would call the snout. Can anybody tell me what it might be? I just thought of this..........Although I plan on changing it to sand, I currently have gravel in the tank. Could it be that he/she is digging in the gravel? Thanks for any suggestions

hi...it's afew late but let me say...welcome.
i 've 3 S.Eupterus (more than 6") and 4 S.ocellifer(4").
i 've been watched some dots(or blotched) on eup.s but not on ocell.s.
but i'mnot sure that these dots and the dots on your fishes are same.
these dots are white in colour and looklike "ich" but are too small.(as same as needle's pike). i didnot watch them when my eup.s was smaller( littler than 4"). and probabely the ocellifers will have those dots after growing.
these dots are not symptoms of illness.if you notice more, you could watch littler dots allover the sides of them(and you could watch some bigger ones in their "side-line").thus i think that these dots are a type of advanced sensores that could help these fishes to have better and correct sense of their environments( in addition with their barbs(whiskers))
i hope i could help you.
goodluck.:ok:
