Hi:
I was just wondering what is everyones favorite book(s) they have purchased either in "all" Africans or just a writing about a single lakes species (Malawi, Tanganyika, etc)? I am interested in obtaining some reading material so when I set up my tank this coming spring I will be a little bit more knowledgeable about the Africans I plan to keep.

Roots?

I asked which books on African Cichlids everyone reading this post might have come accross? (Though Roots was good also).

I was just yanking your chain. Kunta Kinte was so cool. :D

Any book by Ad Koning would be a good start. I've looked at some but don't actually have any (I'm cheap). He's like "THE GUY" when it comes to Rift Valley cichlids. His books are considered the standard for most Rift keepers.

:)
Anyhowsit I have heard about a book from Koning that costs around 80 lashes. Have you heard of this one? If so does it contain pictures only with little text or is it a complete lexicon like Axlerod's for all cichlids

It's probably "Ad Koning's Book of Cichlids and all the Other Fishes of Lake Malawi" 456 pgs 1200 pictures. It costs about $80 and has enough text for most cichlid keepers. I think it's the book my lfs uses for ID's. Check out www.cichlidpress.com . It's got other books by Koning, some are cheaper and there's a software cd with over 5k pictures.
