Firemouth and Rainbows

I am thinking about starting a new tank for central americans. The tank is 5, 2, 2ft. Will this be okay for a group of firemouth cichlids and a group of rainbow cichlids?

Yes, that's actually a very good size.

You should be able to end up with three or four pairs of fish in such a tank (provided it's well decorated with plenty of cover).

Take advantage of the extra swimming space in that tank with some dither/target fish. A dozen mollies or giant danios would help keep things in order.
