Is 4 common plecos to much for a 55 gal. There seems to be quite a bit of brown algea in the tank. They are each only about 2.5" to 4" long. I know they get big, but that is in quite awhile.
From my experience with Plecos, I can honestly say that they grow fast.. I mean really fast!!!! I would get rid of at least two of them, or you end up with four 12" monsters in about a years time. And believe me, no petstore will take them back. They can't sell those big plecos.
just my 0.02 cents

After 6 mos. my "common" Plecos were both over 8" long in the 55g. I had to send them to two friends with larger tanks.

Thanks, I just got a bristle nose, and if it makes it I am going to get rid of a couple commons.

If you have mbuna, the bristle nose are good. The "bristles" apparently aren't very tasty!

I've had my pleco for about a year and a half , and he's about 8 inches long (Common Pleco).....He's lived with my mbuna for about 8 months, but a month or so ago my tank bully decided to pluck his eyes out. I was devistated!!! Be carefull with common plecos and mbuna.....they do well for the most part, but mbuna are so unpredictable! Non aggressive one day, and the tank bully the next!! By the way, my visually handicapped pleco is doing great despite the mean mbuna! (I did of course move the pleco to a more peaceful tank!) :)
