I noticed that canister filters weren't mentioned in the poll about favorite filters.

Do any of you guys use canister filters? If so, what kind?

If not, why not?

I'm asking because I've heard a lot of debate on the pros/cons of canister filtration.

I have a Fluval 402 and an AquaClear 200 running on my 46g.

I run a Fluval 404 with a pair of AC500's on my 125g. It's sort of a back up, I do most of my maintenance on the HOB's (rotating sponges) while I only break down the cannister every few months. I think HOB's are just easier to work with and I tend to forget about the 404 under the cabinet.

I run two Fluval 404s on my 125g. I would go with Jonah's set up if I had to do it again though. I love them, but breaking them down is a pain. I think if I got another big tank I would get the AC's and move one of the canisters. I thought about putting one of them on my 10g, but I think that might be a bit much. :D

Two Magnum Pro 350s on my 75. Would rather have a AC 500 and one canister. Then I would have a spare canister for somewhere else.

I had a large planted tank that I ran a couple fluval canisters on. The canister filters don't aireate sp? the water the way other filters can. This leaves more CO2 in the tank for the plants.

I just installed an old Eheim 2013 on my tank that I bought for $40 on ebay. I filled it with crushed coral to use as a pH buffer and additional biological filter.
