Is there any way to calculate how much tapwater is used at waterchanges?
My so called better half is already crying like a wounded rabbit, because we will be on restrictions this summer.
I figured 60% of tapwater to drain 30% of tankwater assuming the python is hooked up to the sink, and then another 30% to fill it.
So 90% of tapwater to 30% of tankwater, wich puts me at about
9,000 gallons a year if I do changes every three weeks:eek:
I guess I could put the stopper in the sink drain and get it correct, but I really don't want to.

Drain manually with the python. Get a good suction and let it run on the lawn, or down the tub. That should help a lot.

Boilermaker, you could do what I had to do last summer when there was a water restriction here. Call the water company and alert them. Then tell them that you will be "recylcing" the tank water for lawn and garden, etc. Then all you have to do is rig up the Python to another tube to go out the door/window to water plants, etc. It's pretty easy to get the T connector at the hardware store and hook it on to the Python instead of the sink adaptor. I had the guy in plumbing at Home Depot help me out with it.
Good luck! We're facing restrictions here again, too.

Thanks for the replies, I hear what your saying Rex thats how I drain the hottub, but having mostly undergravels I need more pressure to vaccum.
Merlyn, can I still run the sink with the t-connector? need the pressure.

Only through the Python's drain piece. Otherwise the sink is not able to be used, just like when you use the Python normally.

Sorry, just read my post lol, what I mean't to say is can I still run the water through the faucet to create the vaccum?

:rofl2:
Yes, absolutely! Same principle, different configuration of the sink attachment.
