I bred them using a 20g long tank (30"), two cocoanut shells for caves, boiled peat moss which was buried in the sand and a few plastic plants. Feeding was just algae discs and flakes. I kept the water at 80 F and used several sponge filters which created a lot of current. Other than that I can't think of anything else I did to set them up. They figured it out anyway.

Good water quality and breeding caves of some sort are the main necessities. A little zucchini wouldn't hurt either.

Here are some things to think about...I learned from trial and error over the past year and a half.
1. Make sure you have a compatable pair.
2. Make sure that you have a cave or shell with one 2.5 - 3 inch opening. The male likes a secure place to guard the eggs.
3. Make sure you keep up with water changes and have strong filtration. I have a penguin 100 on my 10 gallon tank and also a smaller hang on filter at the other end of the 10.
4. I feed mine the small algae disks also, and feed them on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I drop a few extras on Friday because this tank is at work and I am not there on the weekends. I have tried the broccoli and zuchini but they don't show much interest in it and it usually has the water smelling funky in a very short time. I was pulling out more than they were eating.
Hope this helps.
