almost reminds me of a Pink Convict Cichlid, but i'm not sure at all.
Deffinetly South American
Yep, that'a a Pink Convict (a color form of the normal grey and black barred Convict). The species name is nigrofasciatus, and the genus was Archocentrus but will now likely be Cryptoheros. You'll probably more often see it written as Archocentrus nigrofasciatus.
Get the little girl a normal colored boyfriend and you'lll be able to enjoy watching them protect their babies.
Females are usually smaller, have a rosy red or yellow belly, and sometimes have a little spot of color in their dorsal fin. Males are generally bigger, less colorful, and have longer trailers on their dorsal and anal fins (although females have tapered fins too).
Forgot to add......
Convicts are from Central America (Nicaragua, Costa Rica, etc.) and come from waters generally harder and more alkaline than their South American cousins. That said, they are among the most adaptable fish in the hobby, so I wouldnt ever even worry about pH, etc. with them. Just keep up on your water changes.
Females will grow to 3-4 inches, and males reach 5-6".
