I have a female (I think) blue peacock (hard to tell b/c she doesn't have her color) that has had a bit of a bloated abdomen for a couple of days. Today her anus appears irritated, swollen & red & her fins were a bit tattered. I have a very aggressive group of fish, which are probably to blame for the fins, but I am concerned about the rest of the symptoms. I added MelaFix to the tank when I saw her today...do you think that it is something MelaFix will treat or something like bloat or parasites?!?!
Help!
Thanks,
Ginger

There is a condition called "bloody anus" which causes similar symptoms, but it sounds more like possible parasites. The Melafix can't hurt, but you probably need an antiparasite med too.
Did you isolate the fish yet? Try some meds like Hex-A-Mit or Clout if it seems to be parasitic.

Thanks - it's the 3rd day of the MelaFix & she is doing remarkably better - the bloating is gone & the anal tissue looks much better. She's eating & seems like she feels ok. I'm going to finish out the 7 days with MelaFix and monitor her. I thought that it was parasitic at first as well, but now I'm not sure. I definately will isolate her if I wind up using something like Clout.
I have to get "Stumpy" my poor little albino compressiceps out of my hospital tank before I can treat her. He got his tail bitten off in my community tank & now all he has is a stump :(

Poor baby! Did you use the Melafix on him too? I hate when they do that to each other!
Glad the little one feels better. Obviously whatever it was must have been responded to the Melafix. :D
