Hi. I just recently acquired a cichlid... quite by accident. I sent for plants from a mail-order company and got someone else's fish order instead! Most of it was saltwater, except for a couple of cichlids and a rainbow shark. I gave the saltwater fish to a local fish store and kept the last three. The one cichlid (a ram) ended up dying. :( The other one is alive and doing well... only problem is, I'm not entirely sure which cichlid it is. From researching on the internet, the best I can come up with is a corpora/hypsophrys nicaraguenese (called a Macaw on one site), possibly a female. Am I right, or is this something else? I'd really like to know what I'm dealing with here... so I know how to properly care for it!

I think you're right on! Female nicaraguense.

I personally wouldn't speculate on the gender simply because of inexperience with the species, but that is a H. nicaraguense. :)

Id also say male nic. Females have much more conspicuous black lines
