How exactly does mail ordering a fish work? I live in a remote small town with no direct access to a major airport. It would have to be transferred at LAX or Ontario, CA and flown by puddle jumper to our town.

mostly, the fish are shipped overnight via dhl/fedex/airborne/ups/usps; they can also be shipped by air freight, but you would have to pick up at the airport.

Is that my local puddle jumper airport that I would have to pick them up at?

you'd probably have to get that question answered locally.

In general, no, but like SGM says, you could check. Air freight is usually an arrangment with an airline to carry it as cargo on a specific flight. If you have a major airline that comes to your airport that you have a good chance, otherwise you're probably out of luck. If you were feeling really extravagant, of course, you could pay someone to fly it from the nearest large airport to your local municipal airport.

I have heard of a distributor in Anaheim, Russ Vistler. That's about 3 1/2 hrs away. Maybe it would be easier to just drive down and get them!

Anaheim, California is only 3 1/2 from Pocatello, Idaho? How fast are you driving? It used to take me 10 hours to drive to Vegas from San Diego and that's a lot closer.

It seems like www.cichlidexchange.com in Portland, Oregon would be just as close.

If you can get overnight deliveries of packages at your home, then you can get fish delivered as well. Just ask the dealer if they've delivered to the middle of no-where before. After all, they do this for a living and have probably seen every possible situation.:)

HAHA! Didn't I mentioned that I drive a Leer Jet disguised as a 4WD Toyota Tacoma?
I am retired and living in Idaho and CA until my wife retires. So I am back and forth frequently. My aquariums are in CA and I don't want to move them til we move to Idaho permenantly. I spend more time in "The Peoples Socialist Republik of Kalifornia" during the winter and more time in Idaho during the summer.

One more reason I moved my family to Oklahoma 7 years ago. Rampant socialism and the crushing of personal freedoms. :( I think (hope) the black outs are going to bite Grey "Red" Davis on the butt in November. Anybody would be better than him.

I read in the San Diego Union today that they're cracking down on homeschoolers in Cali. With all the problems going on out there they're worried about people raising their own children? Oklahoma has the right to home schooling in it's constitution.

By the way, the average home in San Diego is around $300K now. I paid $50K for my home here and it's worth $70 now, still very affordable. The real estate market there is insane.

But man is it pretty.

Man! Don't get me started on CA. I was born and raised and worked my entire 30 yr. career here, but it's definitely not the state I grew in. Too Bad, I like the little town I live in (Ridgecrest), I just wish I could transport it to ID!
