And this one I had in the wrong place in the wrong size but this is much smaller. I'm in a wonder if it's a Kenyi that doesn't know how to color up yet or thinks it's more than one fish. There was a Kenyi in my tank and it colored up yellow, maybe this one was waiting, cause the other Kenyi died mysteriously. But I also saw a aurora on the net that looked liked this one.

It looks like one of my confused kenyii. Several of them decided to turn male, but they act scared to finish the change. Probably haven't developed a dominant yet.

How do Kenyii's rate on the agressiveness scale?
P.S.
Jonah-I looked up 2-10 and I don't want no dang fish in my aquarium big enough to vomit me up onto dry land!!!

It's all about filtration with the big fish. :D You should of seen the skate I caught off of Sitka, Alaska last summer. It must have been 9 square feet and my first thought was how cool it would look in a fish tank.
I rate kenyii (lombardoi) just below cobalts in my tank and above Mel. auratus for aggression. In other words, they're the second most aggro fish in my tanks. Different fish have different personalities so it's a "case by case" thing.
On a related note, several of my lombardoi have turned more yellow recently and they're fighting amongst themselves much more. I'm probably going to get rid of them this winter when I rearrange my tanks. I might be setting up a few more 55's or 40's for breeding and I want to get each tank down to primarily 2 or 3 species each.

Males are about pretty darn aggressive, at least my two are. 8/10 and even the females hold their own, unless its the dominant kenyi. Then they usually bow down and find a spot to hide. I started out with four females and now I'm down to just one. I have eight 1.5-2" kenyi from one of the females that died. Neat fish, but ya need a big tank for them since the males like to claim large territories. Which is about 70-80% of my 55 gallon tank  It varies from fish to fish though, I have a big 4"ish male that is my main problem maker. I moved him to my 10 gallon tank for a couple weeks after he killed one, maybe two of the females. I put him back in there recently and he took his spot back up as the dominant male of the tank. He seems to have settled down alittle bit though, he isn't constantly chasing all the tank mates like he used to.

in my experience, i've found the kennyi/lombardoi just a tad less aggressive than the auratus.

My female Auratus (the male croaked soon after I introduced him) is boss of the tank! I sure don't want to go any more aggressive than her. She sort of acts like my first wife. Now that I think about it they are both kinda pretty, but well..... you know what I mean!

Auratus are really aggresive. I have seen big ones at LFS and they dominate whatever tank they are in at that time.
I have a few smaller ones and just by size they are ok.

Well I have answered the Kennyi/Auratus question for myself at least temporarily. I got a Kennyi this morning and the Auratus is dominant. Of course the Auratus is slightly larger and has been in the tank for about a month, so we'll see.........
The new cichlid to the tank is usually always submissive. Wait till he has got used to the tank, and you will probably see some lip-locking battles where they will figure out whos gonna be "da boss". If they are close to the same size, he will give him a run for his money.
This is my dominant Male Kenyi, he can be a meanie. Does a whole lot of chasing.

This is his sub-dominant color, from when he was in the 10 gallon for killing his female tankmates. Hes back in the 55 gallon now and took his spot back as the "boss" within a few hours, his smaller male rival gave his dominance spot up without much of a fight.

I agree, the male kenyi are hostiles. No one messes with my cobalt and then comes my male Kenyi which died mysteriously wedged in between some rocks, now I have this one which is a little different than the first, it still hasn't taken its full dominant color yet, it takes a little more than my first one did but not much. Then comes my male electric blue, then the three female electric blues, then my 2 red zebras. I'm sure this is useless information but maybe it will give you an idea on the agression. After they color up that is.

Actually, I am enjoying the aggression in my tank since it isn't out of hand. The Auratus "was" dominant in the tank until today! The Kenyi is smaller and juvenile so we'll see what he does in the future. He has a favorite corner and the dominant Red Zebra (50% larger) swam in there and the Kenyi chased him out! The dominant Bumble Bee chases the Kenyi, but not much. The Red Zebra chases the Bumble bee and so on and so on. I still haven't figured out what my Blue/Gray striped fish are (see my Species Identification post).
The reason I said the Auratus "was" dominant until today is because I went out of town and brought and Electric Yellow home. Now I know your're saying "the Electric Yellow isn't especially aggressive!" I understand that, but fortunately this Electric Yellow is approximately twice the size of any other fish in the tank. The Auratus bugged him for about a half and hour til the Yellow turned around and went after the Auratus! They went round and round in a speedy little circle for a few seconds and the Auratus swam away! Now the Auratus more or less ignore the Yellow. As long as the aggression doesn't get too violent, it's sorta fun to watch. Sorry this post is so long, but I'm watching the tank while I'm typing and enjoying the heck out of it.:D
See Ya, Sam

Funny (not ha ha) I just bought a large electric too. My friend is on his way to come get his bad self out of my tank. He isn't playing nice with anything except Psuedotropeus. My brichardi and leupi are taking turns at eating fins.
Fortunately I have a friend with several electric yellows of the same adult size.
