I thought this guy was a powder blue, now I'm in the middle of claiming it as a male Pseudotropheus estherae or a Cobalt Blue. His color is the violet look by eye, it could be the water and algae, or when I use the flash on the digital camera it's the blue. I've read that the cobalt blue was at one time the pseudotropheus zebra which is getting me to think he was a male estherae, but he looks like a Cobalt also.

It looks like Maylandia caillanos (cobalt) to me. I'm just guessing on the latin name.

If they're in the same tank as red zebras they will hybridize and the dominant male will probably kill the sub. Wild male red zebras are blue, which may explain some of the conflict. Most domestic bred red zebra males look like the females. The hybrids I've had look like light pink red zebras.

thanks on the help, I'll never buy from a mixed cichlid tank again.
