Fluval 403

Hello all,

I got a freebie fluval 403 off someone. All i needed were replacement seals. I'm currently running an eheim external canister filter. I know how to remove all the air from it.

Problem is i cant get all the air out of the fluval. The water is pumping through (unlike the eheim which won't work with any air). I've tried twisting and shaking the canister around, but cant get all of it out.

Any ideas or tricks?

With my 404 I filled the canister before I sealed it up. That seemed to be enough to get it going.

Thanks Jonah i'll give it a try. I dont know how the 404 works, but with the 403, the water inlet brings the water into the side on the canister. Inside it there are the three compartments with the filter stuff (floss, carbon etc). The water is sucked through these three compartments before it goes to the outlet.

The air is in the area when the water comes in. Because the air cant get through all the stuff inside the filter, it cant escape.

So as the air isn't near the impeller, the pump works.
