i've noticed that the dominant vic males get extremely dark...as a matter of fact they get so dark that you can't see their more subtle colors and consequently, the subdominant males look prettier to me. my dominant blue bar male and my dominant largemouth hap. have turned completely black with red fins...sorta like a nubila. i know that the neochromis greenwoodi aka 'velvet black' throws a black morph with red fins...is it possible that these fish are not displaying dominance, but are instead just a different color morph?

Hi Gypsi, many of rock dwelling fishes are known to have a color varient as N.greenwoodi, N.omnicaeruleus, P.nyrrereî, p.pundamilia, P.macrocephala. We don't know for some if they are a color morph or a different species. Many of the vics become darker with age and dominance, perhaps it's the case for your fishes.
