In your mind, which fish rules? Or, what is your favorite Malawian in your tanks?
As for me, I know I have stated before, the Placidachromis Phenochilus is the complete Malawian. They are beautiful and only get more so as time goes by. They are very adept eaters. Very mild tempers, but will not allow themselves to be kicked around. All and all, the Phenochilus rules IMHO! My wife says the only reason I like them so much is because they let me pet them. ;)

I really like my Dimidiochromis compressiceps, but it's probably just because it's new. I'm fickle.

Hmmmm....... My definate favorite are Pseudotropheus Saulosi.......no doubt about it!............. well then again there is Ps. Deep "msobo" of course. You can't really overlook the "oldie but goodie" Labidochromis Caeruleus. Yeah thats my favorite. That is aside from Labidichromis pearlmutts. :D
Did I mention Pseudotropheus demasoni? :?
Were we talking about rock or open water Malawis? Aulonocara nyassae rule the Malawi kingdom.............as I have stated all along.
I haven't kept a whole lot of different types yet. So far I have kept/keep Ps. Socolofi, Ps. Elongatus Ruarwe, M. Johanni, M. Lombardoi, M. Callinos, M. Estherae, Ps./Geph. Acei, Lab. Caeruleus, and Lab. Hongi red tops. Out of those my Acei are my favorites, and 2nd favorites are a close one between the yellow labs and red tops

Well, favorite fish is Protomelas taeniolatus. I thing you can see such different colors just in reefs. When it dresses its breeding colors every other fish in the tank seems dim to me 8)
I was going to have to say the Cytacara Moori however I am completely hooked on the Placidachromis Phenochilus. Thanks to Overwed I have been jonesing for a trio of these guys. They are awesome. I found a trio for $50 which from the looks of it is not to bad, just more than my wife will let me spend.

Get em Rudy!!! They are the coolest of the Malawi's IMHO. If you don't perhaps my female will learn to hold her eggs for more than two days and I can send ya some!
You guys are such a bad influence.
I love it

There's a hole in my office tank that I'm saving for A. stuartgranti. The hole has been there a long time, torturing me. But the yellow strains like Maleri http://malawicichlids.com/mw08006b.htm or Mdoka http://george.peabody.yale.edu/CICHLID/AB/a027-4.jpg just electrify a display tank.
The Canadian Rift Lake Cichlid Association auction comes up on 24 November at the University of Guelph, which is about 2 1/2 hours away. That's about the limit of my willpower: if I can't get some there, I'm filling the space with.......... with........ oh oh.

Almost any Dwarf Mbuna, as long as it has some blue in it.

The sweetest malawi IMHO is Lichnochromis acuticeps "malawi gar" I have 4 of them they are the most gorgeous fish I have ever seen come out of the lake and you'll love their sleek long garlike heads. The males when mature have the most bluest head and green bodies, if you have a chance to purchase any I highly recommend them even though they are a very rare cichlid.

Wow, so much taxaonomy to learn and so little time!!! You guys are great!! I have a short cut on my desk top for malawi mayhem just to look up all the wonderful species!!!
My favorite so far is the Labidochromis sp Perlmutt. Problem is I can not find any locally and don't have my 50 gal set up yet if I did find them.
Out of the ones that I have in my tank right now, Pseudotropheus socolofi. Love that blue color!

Hummm...let's see ummmmm....ok I would have to say that my protomelas Marginatus is my fav. I just love his colors never seen a fish with so many metalic hues on them as he has, greens, gold, blues, yellow and the list goes on. Yep that's my fav, when I get some pictures I have to show ya:)

Wow.. tough question.. I guess my favorite in my tank right now is Melanochromis Exasperatus (because they are so rare and all the pictures I've seen of the adults are gorgeous). I guess if I were going to choose some other fish I really wanted, I love the stripes on Ps. kingsize or Cy. afra "Jalo Reef." I'd also love a pack of wild acei. I actually have a longer wishlist, but I'll spare you guys.

oh we have M. exasperatus everywhere in JAX for some reason. Probably a back yard breeder around here has the market on them.

My favorites are my three hybrids. Socolofi x M. estherae. Yes, I know, I know. But they were the first Malawian babies for me and they look pretty cool. Otherwise it would be C. borleyis. I have 4 juvies.

Overawed- yea.. I guess you just get lucky in some places. this was the first time I'd seen exasperatus after admiring them in books in 3 years in Southern Indiana. Its nice to get fish without paying the costly shipping! :D

tough question! what do you do when two fish you love decide they hate eachother? i had to make the solomonic choice about a year ago when my demasoni decided that my kingsizei was annoying and set out on a quest to take over the tank at all costs. to answer the question, the kingsizei is my fav fish i've ever had. he's almost 5 and is awesome. i like the demasoni lots too, but when a friend offered to take him, i quickly accepted!
