When I got them they were labeled as four lined pictus. Then I posted about them on another forum and they said they are four lined pims. So is that what they are? I've had the bigger one for 2.5years now. It is one of my favorite fish. They are so active. They come to the surface of the water to eat food. So I guess they have really gotten use to me. I see these guys at my lfs alot but I never see post questions, comments, and pictures of them. I'm the only one I know that has them. Why do you think that is? So anyway, what are they? (common name and scientific)

Here's the other. They really are one of the best fishes I've ever owned. They are pretty hardy also.

If these are so common I don't see why no one really knows what they are.

It looks kinda like a pictus cat just without the spots...?

Um how big is it, it looks to be 4-6 inches from the pic?

Many "common" catfish are hard to positively ID....That is not uncommon...what is uncommon is someone who is really good at positively ID'ing catfish!:D

Well i have seen the pictus cats loose their spots as they get bigger, But if they are pictus cats they would be verry active. do they consistantly swin up and down all sides of your tank? Try to observe their behavior, as this might make then easier to ID

Let me try to explain a little. They do look like pictus and are probably closely related. Ive seen similar advertised as 4-lined pictus. When some one tells you they are pims they are refering to the genus pimelodus, of which pictus are a member. There are many of these long whiskered cats in that family. I will attach a link as to what I would think they are. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/pimelodi/pimelodu/653_F.PHP

If you dont agree, just look around at planetcatfish, under the pimelodus family, you should find something that matches.

I think you are on to something. That does look like them and the descriptions describe them completely.
