Check this fish out. I love him. He is about 5 inches. Rex, CHC and other red devil complex lovers do I have a winner?

Notice the black stripe through his eye

Awsome! He's a cool fish with brilliant colors, regardless of the species. The pics are quite blurry and make it hard to distinguish the species, but my current guess is Midas. Take a look at him from the top and tell us how his snout is shaped.

A good buy none the less,
Rex

This tank I always have trouble taking pics. It must be the light in the basement. I will try to get some good ones. I hope the coloration stays as he is such a nice looking fish.

At 5" long, the distinguishing characteristics should be more obvious. In the first picture, he has some size to his lips, so there may be some labiatus in there. Also, the body is a bit elongated like a labiatus. Still, he does not seem to have the cranial profile of a labiatus, so it makes me suspect there could be a Midas "connection."

Regardless, that's an outstanding looking fish. Congrats!

Yeah Dovii, its a Tilapia buttikoferi. Often called the Hornet Cichlid over here.

Does this fish mix well with fishes from america ? Why do you keep cichlids from america and africa 2gether ? They dont have the same water requierments. :(
How is the Tilapia buttikoferi doing in that tank ?

Actually the Buttikoferi is found in west African rivers and is well suited to life with American cichlids. Both in temperment and water conditions. I have an 8" Buttikoferi with all other American cichlids in a 500g and he is doing great.

Chc let me try to get some better pics. I have been looking at him all day and comparing. I really think he is a labiatus as the v shape is quite apparent. He could be a mix, but let me get this camera working a bit better and we will see. Regardless you really can't beat the color on him.

By the way dovii. He gets along great with others in the tank. Water conditions as Rex said are similar. West african and not rift lakes.
