I just purchase five 1.5" petricola  . I paid CAN$50.00 for them.:D Could somebody pls. tell me what to feed them. I'ts my first time owning catfish, can I feed them flakes and pellets or do I have to buy a special food for them? Thanks to all who respond, I appreciate it.

Petricola are a favorite for fish owners who have fish that can't tolerate high protein diets because they can thrive on nearly vegetarian fare. That being said. They are typical catfish in that they will pretty much appreciate just about anything you give them, and I can't think of anything I know of that mine shouldn't have that you can feed a fish.
Good choice on the catfish, btw. I have a group of seven and they are the most fun.

I absolutely agree with you on the fun part:D . I only had them for a couple of hours and I can't stop looking at them, this catfish that I got are not too shy. They are in my 10 gallon right now with 12 Ps. saulosi(1") :) and about 60-80 half inch Ps.Acei fry in the breeders net.

All of that in a 10 gallon tank??? :D
I started out with a group of 10 S. Petricola and love them. I've been lucky they have increased to a group of 16 without a drop of help from me. Well I did put them in a tank of multi's so they could help hold the population down.

yep, 10 gallon.:D I'm still working up a deal with this guy that is selling me a 75 gallon. Well right now I'm in the process of transfering the acei in a 140 liter rubbermaid container, just waiting for the heater and filter that I ordered. The Acei will be gone in about 2 months, once they reach 1.5". 5 Saulosi is going to my 90 gallon main tank and the rest are going to my friends.:ok:

I'm pretty sure I have at least two females in my bunch because I have two that look like ping-pong balls with fins and whiskers every so often while the other stay nice and slim. :)
I have never tried to save any spawns, but I suspect that if I built a spawner I could catch some eggs. Mine would have a pretty good gene pool as three of mine are wild caught from two different purchases and the other four are f1 off of AquaBid. I can (surprisingly) tell them apart. The wild ones are darker colored. One of my females is wild and the other is f1.
