Just go to the yellow pages, don't know where you are, but the fish is common enough, I had 3 for the past three years-just returned them to my cichlid man two weeks age. Decided not to mix lakes. Just call around.

You are looking for Neolamprologus tretocephalus. Or as they are called sometimes "trets, from Lake Tanganyika.
Jambo,
Matt--both should be readily available unless your somewhere in the sticks

well, i must be in the sticks because i've never seen them in stores around here.
jblack, try fish clubs in your area--maybe you can hook up with some breeders. if you have a close relationship with an lfs, maybe they'll order some for you.

Hi jblack,
Which species did you decide on? I' m partial to the trets myself, never had a bad experience with them. I also think that upon close examination they look like puppie dogs w/fins :) .

Matthew

Im leaning towards the sexfasciatus because i like the yellow coloring a little more than the blue, but will settle for either because i really like both. Im in the San Diego area, and i havent tried calling all the fish stores around, but most have the pretty common electric yellows, electric blues, and other "PETCOish" cichlids, which i already own...but i will certainly look around.
Thanks for the advice.

if you like that yellowish sexfasciatus, you might consider www.aquabid.com there's usually an auction going for them.
