I have two small cichlids that I need help identifying, they are still very young so I don't believe their colors are fully developed. Right now they are about an inch to and inch and a half in length, light yellow with black stripes (the stripes are more of a dark grey which is why I don't believe they are fully matured with color.) I believe when they are adult sized their colors are supposed to be yellow with black stripes and their fins become a bright blue, but I'm unsure. Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi ilio. Welcome to the forums.

Just for clarification to help those who might be able to help you:

Are the "stripes" horizontal stripes or vertical bars? (The former is one characteristic of the Melanochromis genus, for example, hence my "clarification" request.

I was sifting through some pics hoping to get an idea of what my fish are and I found a pic of a similar fish just of a different color to possibly help with the ID, mine are similar to the blue one (second from the left) but with wider and slightly darker stripes.

I'm at work so I can't look in my tank (you can imagine how stressful my job is when I'm classifying my fish) I think I might have answered my own question I found a picture of a very young Venustus that looks similar to mine but it's an awkward angle. They are verticle stripes more of elongated spots that just happen to be close to the size of the fish itself.

I'd have to take a second look at my fish to tell for sure though.
