My midas takes the cake. Smartest fish alive.

I would also add a flowerhorn. I kept one and used to pet his head every morning. He wanted to kill everything else..not me

I've owned a lot of cichlids over the years, although only two on your list, and the oscar was the only one that seemed to rank in intelligence to a dog. They knew the difference between myself and anybody else in the room. If I put my hand in the water they would rubbed against my fingers like a pet, instead of biting it like the red devil did. :shock:

FOr all of the fish i have have kept i would say the red evil is the smartest. People say oscars are but i dont think so. All the time i have them they r just owner responsive and swim to u when u come in but thats it. And all the ones i had just go crazy and swim into the sides and do pretty dumb stuff. So i'll just say the red devils.

I don't know how valid my vote is cause I've never had an adult cichlid before, but out of all the juveniles i've owned I'd say my dovii was the smartest. Was a Crazed digger though, all I heard was him spitting gravel into the glass. My oscar was pretty smart too, but my dovii knew that when a green net was coming to the net a live treat was coming but my oscar never seemed to know, he probably wasnt old enough yet

I'd have to say my coblat blue, although I've never owned any on the list before. My Cobalt when caught in the net and placed in my hand diddnt spaz and flip all crazy splashing water everywhere. Almost like he knew no harm was to come to him. Although he was a hardcore architech digging and rearranging everything in less than a week. Plus he does the stare back at you when your watching them.
