Having fun with my Nikon 8800. This is my midas from a tank I keep in my classroom, still trying to get shots of both together. (there is a smaller one also in the tank - hoping it's a female)

Welcome, and awesome fish!!! I love his iris. Makes me want one just like him.

I don't know what size tank you have, but I'm not sure if the smaller one won't be killed when this one gets to a certain size and wants the tank for himself.

Thanks.

I was wondering about the bigger one killing the smaller one. At the moment they are in a 55long, but will soon be in a 75. Would you recommend I put a divider up? I would like to have some little midas fry some day ... but I am also a bit new to the Midas.
Here is a not-so-good shot of both.

Would some targets (tinfoils, etc) be helpful?

First off - I hate you :D Man, those are nice barred midas (how would you pluralize that?...)

Looks like squirt has already taken a bit of attention.

My midas info is second hand, but I'm sure that mating requires a divider, like egg-crate, to keep the female safe.

If they don't form a compatible pair, or you have two the same sex, then I'm not sure if the small one will last.

But you're sure to get smoe more opinions soon.

If you'd care to send me your fish, I'd be happy to sex them for you  :nana3:

Heh, wow. Thanks for the props. I got these two at my local Pet S Mart, first time I bought fish there - That Fish Place is 15 minutes away - but their service sucks (all High School kids who don't want to scoop fish and bag ’em). Anyway, yes, little one has taken some abuse. I had read a lot about Midas not doing very well with others. I am going to do my best to at least make sure the small one stays somewhat intact, or put it in another tank. If they are both males - it may end up for grabs. ;p

Funny, but some fish don't seem to circulate to different places. My lfs gets some interesting fish, but I haven't seen a barred midas.

Actually, I wouldn't have room for a fish I'd have to keep alone anyway. Not enough tanks, not enough time.

But if you promise to keep posting pics of yours, I can live vicariously through you. Deal? ;)

Are they barred? All the barred Midas I have seen have actual stripes like convicts or Butti.s.
You could get some egg crate for light fixtures & make yourself a divider. If you think you have a pair then you could cut a few doors in the divider that only shee can fit through. Good luck I bet your students love it. What grade/age?

Well, I'm no midas expert for sure. I just googled up Midas pictures, found some like option5's here that said barred, and assumed.

Whatever they should turn out to be, I'm in love!

Sounds like a plan.

I teach in a vocational school and have primarily eleventh grade students. I teach a visual communications program - tank is purely relaxation for me ... plus I am running out of room in the basement.

Thanks man!! Looking forward to it. Love to see that guy in another 6 months.

BTW, you should post that pic of yourself in the 'put-a-face-to-your-username' sticky in the lounge. Most of us are there too :)
