ive got 3 kenyii and 1 is totaly yellow with egg spots on anal fin and 2 blue what do i have ,, any1 please iam so confused lol the breeder tells me 1 thing axlrods book says the same but iam bein told that as they get older the go from blue to yellow ,, help ??

It might help if you had some pictures. Kenyii can be a few different types of fish.

Otherwise guessing is like a shot in the dark. Try to upload some pictures and I'll look to see what they might be.

I'm willing to bet the Yellow one with the egg spots is a male (males have eggs spots on their anal fins while the females don't. Also Male Kennyi's/lombardois are yellow). The blue ones are females. But, I have had the problem/experience of buying what looks like a juvinile female (blue with no egg spots) only to have it grow into its adult colours, and guess what it was a male. Assuming your Kennyi's are full grown, or at least adult size, then I would stand by my above statements...

males turn yellow, females stay blue.

My son has two Kenyi (Maylandia lombardoi), one is definitely a male, solid yellow with several egg spots and boss of the tank. The other that we thought was a subordinate male, yellow with faint stripes and one egg spot had babies around Christmas. These are mature fish, around 5" & 6". So it's a real crap shoot as I was to find out (see my post "I GOT BABIES!")

juvenile kennyi/lombardoi are blue, adult males are yellow, but older females sometimes give up their blue coloring for a muddy pink/blue/yellow color...that's what mine did. i gave her away, not because of her coloring, but because of her loose morals--i just got rid of the last of her hybrid fry!

I'm leaning more and more toward taking them both on a one way trip to the IFS!
