Hey hello there everyone. I found that my dad has lots of woods. Length is 4 foot. Width is 3 foot. Im gonna make a square pond and put it in my basement. Im gonna get a sponge filter. Maybe add a few plants. And im gonna make sure the pond can hold at least 40 gallon. And can make a goldfish grow up to 10 inches. Do you guys think this idea is good or bad.

Is this a good idea or not. Well thanks

Im am not sure of you can just use the wood. you may have to get a liner for it and make sure it is solidly built first. otherwise it should work.

Well if this is going to be an inside pond you should treat it as a tank. maybe get a canister filter or some kind of filter that doesnt have to hang onto the pond. instead of a goldfish pond why not use it to raise up cichlids? this usually works good with them. also if you are going to add plants, i am assuming live, then there should be some tpe of light on it unless the basement gets regular constant light. you could also add some pool sand that you can get cheaply from home depot for a substrate. i think that should be about it.HTH.

Hey thanks mike. Well i might think about putting a pair of rams in it. But i wanna go with some goldfish. Because my parents kinda trips that the cichlid kinda are stinky. Since i have like 1 10 inch red oscar in my 125. So they complain. So im getting so goldfish or koi. WEll and goldfish also produce more waste in my opinion.

So i might put the pond outside in the summer. And put the pond inside in the winter. That was my crazy idea. Im also getting one of the things where u can just pull it out and release the water. So its much easier to change place and not as heavy.

Frame it out properly and cross brace across the top. I personally prefer screws but good ole 16 pennies should do the trick.

Do yourself a favor, go to Lowes or home depot and buy a preformed pond. I got a 250~280 gal for $70. I'm doing like you and putting it inside,( my garage) and am building a wood frame for it to sit in and support it.

From your description, Nailing or screwing a liner to a frame is not going to work due to the weight of the water pulling on it will cause it to tear.
