I recently had to seperate my pair of festae and was looking for something to put in there that he would not kill. I was kind of leading toward a couple clown loaches, but I did not think that would work, so I tried some cons.
I built up one corner of my tank with stacked slate and pvc elbows.
Put them in there on friday with a bunch of feeders to give the festa a choice. Good news! He didn't touch either. It is always great to get a fish that does not know to eat feeders. It also give you some options when you want to add something to a large cichlid tank. He chases them around quite a bit but they quickly learn how to get out of his way.
By the way these things are about an inch long. There are 4 of them. I did this to make sure they were non threatening to him. I figured they would have a better chance.
As I am typing this though there was a real close call. Maybe I just wasted space. i will let you know.
