All my cichlid books were purchased prior to us buying our house and having our son.. So most everything I have is about 8-9 years out of date...

What are some EXCELLENT books on cichlids that are out there today?

Authors & Titles (& edition) are appreciated!

Any other resources (offline) would also be greatly appreciated...

Rustynut:
I have recently purchased two books by Ad Konnings:
Tanganyika Cichlids in their natural habitat
and
Malawi Cichlids in their natural habitat.

I am Happy with both, I went to Barnes and Nobles and had them special ordered and shipped to my mother's. They set me back a little over $130 us. I am happy enough that I will eventually grab the rest of his books and some of the books in his works cited list.

Jeto:
Google "Jewel of the rift".
Keep the quotes.

I'm waiting to order Ole Seehausen's book "Lake Victoria Rock Cichlids". I need it. But it's $60 and I have actual Victoria rock cichlids to buy first. Then the book so that I can slobber over the fish that I want.

Hi yep the site above is great!
I would recomend for a first book (or only book if you want to stick at just one on cichlids).
ENJOYING CICHLIDS 2nd ed
Ad Konings (Editor)
CICHLID PRESS (2002)

WOW! Until the next edition.
Then update with Cichlid News and specialist books.

What are some good books with helping to identify cichlids?

As mentioned, Konings' book Malawi Cichlids in Their Natural Habitat, 4th Edition is an excellent source for Malawi ID's. Although I believe it hasn't gotten a more recent update, the same book for Tanganyika is a good one as well. Both are pricey, but well worth it IMO.

I would also like to find some good Cichlid ID book(s)...

Any Cichlid Encyclopedias? I want to find something that lists as many known species from Africa AND New World Cichlids...
