View Full Version : Flat Back Hex reversed

This isn't exactly a DIY tank but I was thinking about using a flat back hex tank backwards... This way I could use the "front" as a way to produce more depth to the tank viewing from the "back"

My problem lies in the canopy and how to hang filters etc... I thought I could hang 2 filters on the "hex" sides and have the rockpile fill the rest of the "front" pane with a clear perimeter... maybe some plants to the sides for fill....

I am not sure what problem I may run into, and thought you smart guys here might be able to suggest some things to improve on my idea....

I am thinking about doing a big Plywood version if I can think of how to design it.... :)

What are the dimensions of the sides, perimeter mainly?

Is the hood made of plastic or some other easily changable material?

how many filters and what are they?

PS I have an idea but is your light fixture part of the hood? or is it removable?

I don't have the tank yet... a friend is getting rid of one, I have yet to see it, but was told I could have it if I wanted it...(Just the tank and hood no stand)

I am all for more tanks so I would get it.

My idea for a new hood would be a sized cut piece of plexiglass that way you can modify it with out ruining the hood. If you have the typical light strip it could just sit on top...

I refused the tank... It had been seriously scratched up and the silicone had been clawed away by the preious residents (lizards)... The hood was useless and the front to back width was just too small to even try a rockpile...

I am now loking at Corner/Pentagon tanks which seem to have great potential for Mbuna! Nice bottom area to Gallons ratio!

i've seen some pretty neat corner set-ups in the various gallery forums.

not that you need help from what i've seen of your other tanks...

i think they do make pretty sweet mbuna tanks. now if i just had a corner without crap in it...

You haven't seen my gallery pics, have you? I still have the gravel my ex picked out for it originally. Will have to go with play sand when I am not lazy.
