I've been nibbled on by cichlids numerous times, but it's never really hurt before. I have heard of other people claiming to actually be hurt by the biting before.

My Red Zebra gave me what my husband called a little "hickey" and then it bled a little.
I know a guy who cleans and sets up tanks for a living that got such a good bite that the blood ran down his arm. Happened right in front of us when we were at the vets (where they have the tank). It was a large fish that did it, like maybe 6 or 7 inches and reallly big.
When I had a school of tiger barbs in my former tropical tank, every time I'd stick my hand in, they were like pirahnas. They left tons of little hickeys.
I forget who's signature is: "Can't sleep...the fish will eat me," but every time I read it I laugh.

haven't you heard? The new "in" thing with cichlididiots is to emerse your face into the tank as if you were bobbing for apples.

Stick your hand in a tank with a spawning pair of jaguar cichlids. I still have the scars on my hands.

The funniest thing ever was sticking my hand in the tank with a brooding pair of Lamp. signatus. I thought I was receiving minute electrical shocks until I noticed the male going after my arm like a rabid wombat.

It looked like a shark attack in my 210 gallon tank. Those four teeth really did a number on me and ripped my hand right open.
I meant to eat that darn fish when I was finished with him...... man I am forgetful.

I had a pair of oscars a long time ago that were not happy. I travelled for work, so while living with the parents, I would travel they would feed. My dad listened to me tell him how nasty mean the fish were and he figured he would find out for himself. the oscars, (which were only fed live food from about three inches on) grabbed his finger and would not let go. he threatened to take a shotgun to those little B-- well you get the idea. I thought it was funny until they nabbed me when I was moving out the little buggers ripped the crap out of my hand.

Heh, I have only ever been bitten by convicts and kribs... the convists on my finger... and.. well the kribs were kid of unusual... I was messing around in the tank, moving gravel or something, and a female krib came up and bit the back part of my upper arm, scared the crap out of me.. One bite I never wanna experience, is an adult N. brichardi (or any fish from that complex), they have some nasty lookin teeth...

My old man was a cop & had to attend the hospital where this 8 year old had lost his index finger from the 2nd knuckle. Turns out the parents had thought it'd be cool to get him a rare fish for his b'day & bought him a blackmarket piranha. Course the first thing the kid did was stick his finger in the tank & well... it stopped his nose-picking problem temporarily.
my red devil just snuck me here but he has done worse that this to me.
