I went out of town today and "just happened" to find an excellent IFS. They had a really nice looking D. compressiceps. I say "had" since I now have him. I have seen pictures of them when fully mature in their mating finery and wowee zowee are they pretty! He is approx. 8". I now have him in a quarntine tank. I'd like to know what to expect when I introduce him to my 125. Here is what he will be facing:
2-L. chisumulae - 4"
2-M. crabro - 5"
1-M. estherae - 3"
1-L. caeruleus - 6"
1-M. parallelus - 5"
all are male except the paralellus.
Oh yeah, I have a 4.5" M. lombardoi, but he's in solitary confinement right now. I finally decided what good does it do to have fish if they hide all the time and that's what my Kenyi did to them. Should I get rid of him or will the compressiceps handle him? I know a lot of you have mentioned that you have D. compressiceps and I would appreciate your input.
Thanks, Sam

Mine is about as non-aggressive as a piscivore can be. My money would be on the kenyii.

He has eaten 2" fish before, but so has my crabro and venustus. I'm glad someone else thinks they're pretty. My wife calls it the ugly fish. :x

Jonah-I thought my wife would kill me when I brought another fish home, but all she did was shrug and said, "it looks like a barracuda". Then she walked out of the den. Some people just have no appreciation of beauty.
Gypsy-That post was before I joined I really enjoyed reading it, especially your story about the mbuna swimming over to see what the compressiceps was looking at :D
By the way I noticed that was waaaayyyyy back in August. Do you really expect us to believe that you still only have 12 tanks
I have serious doubts!
I think the M. lombardoi is just about due for a trip back to the LFS.

anyway--i think it's very suspicious the way everyone picks on me--i'm almost positive that cichlid pete's got more and bigger tanks than i have!

This is beginning to sound like (dare I say it?) "tank envy"!
13 is an unlucky number, better get one more!
Oh, by the way.....What does D. Compressiceps like to eat? And, does he like floaties or sinkies?
Thanks, Sam

Small, stupid, slow fish are the preferred food, but mine will eat anything that I feed the tank.

I had to do a quick tank count, I actually lost track. I'm at 15 right now, but a couple of them don't have water in them yet. I need to build a stand for my 40.

Maybe I do have a fish fetish? :?

125, 125, 75, 55, 55, 40, 29, 20, 20, 20, 10, 10, 10, 10 and 10. It got easier when I stopped parking my car in the garage to make room for more tanks.

Mbuniac, I haven't kept D. compressiceps but I did notice a 2 inch peacock at the lfs keeping a tank full of 4 to 6 inch D. compressiceps in check. I swear to God it was just the otherday, just the other day.

If you hit that rock shop off I-15 just head west on 4700s and give me a call I'll show you my favorite lfs hangouts.
I can shown you Malawi haps that will just blow your pocketbook, If your into tangs there' another lfs that will just blow your mind.

I think Gypsy's only limiting factor is space. If her dad would just be reasonable and let her have the upstairs too there would be no limit to the tanks she would have. Maybe she would just get a license and open her own IFS!
Boilermaker-Thanks for the invite,I might just do that!!! I'm not into Tangs "yet", and this is my first Hap, so we'll see. When the weather warms up we come down to Lagoon occasionally. Maybe we could get together then. My son has aquariums too and I know he'd enjoy it.

Oh, I see! Your most immediate need is not "more tanks", it's a "bigger house"!!! :D
