Hi everyone, well I've always wanted to feed my guys worms, but I've always been advised against it due to pesticides, etc.
I just came across vermicomposting on the net, a method of using red wiggler worms to compost your food waste in a worm farm. Now, I don't need the compost, although it can go in my girlfriends garden. But the worms are supposed to multiply like mad and maintain a stable population. Supposedly it doesn't smell if you don't add animal products, and it can be kept inside.
I also see that Jaws mentioned a worm farm in another post, but I didn't notice a thread on it.
Just thought you guys might want to know.
I've prepared a rubbermaid container with lid with shredded newsprint, peat, garden soil and eggshells. Drilled a lot of holes in the bottom, and covered it with fine screening. I should get the worms via mail order next week - 1/2 lb, or 400-500 worms. Apparently you just can't keep up with the population growth, and are even able to split the farm up every 6 months or so (for new farms, or into your garden to help out).
I'll post later on how well it works. Here's a link with the basic info, although if you google 'vermicomposting' you'll get a lot of hits:

(also, if anyone's already doing this I'd love any advice)

Whoa... I was just going to tell you to lay down a piece of plywood in your back yard.... I guess you are a bit more ambitious than that.... :D
You're gonna have a lot of worms....

That's the plan!
Maybe I'll get a hot dog vendor license - Might be an improvement to hooves and a$$, if you spice it right ;)

Hahaha!!!
Hey, you know the Jays? I'm not really a baseball fan. I like hockey, and we have an original sixer team here - The Leafs! As do you. But ours joined earlier!!:nana3: : (here follows some usless hockey trivia from http://www.answers.com/topic/original-six)
"Montreal Canadiens (1909, joined NHL 1917)
Toronto Maple Leafs (1917)
Boston Bruins (1924)
Detroit Red Wings (1926)
Chicago Blackhawks (1926)
New York Rangers (1926)
The term is somewhat of a misnomer; as shown above, only two of the teams are actual original members of the NHL. In fact, three of them were formed in an earlier expansion that enlarged the league to ten teams, its maximum size before 1967. But all six of them do date from the league's first decade, and from 1942 to 1967 the six teams formed the entire league, after such franchises as the Montreal Maroons, New York Americans, and the original Ottawa Senators were done in by the Great Depression."
Although, now I don't really like hockey, either....corporate nonsense. Let's start a sport with our cichlids - maybe we could race them?
(PS - My geopgraphy is darn awful. I had to google New Hampshire to find out Boston was there)

That's okay... I consider Boston my home city. Boston is the only real New England "city" in New England. AND I only live about 30 miles away. 30 miles - funny how it takes over an hour to get there. It's hard to believe that 30 miles away from the city is total forest & farms.. That's why all the Mass-holes (lol, you know who you are) come to NH for a quick get away to go "camping" and run all of us nice folks off the road waving the Massachusetts state bird and yelling "Can you believe dis f!@#ing guy?" lol
Yeah, couldn't resist....

I had to split up the posts because it appears we're in a posting race... :D
I went to Boston U, so I have been into hockey for quite some time. My sister and I are big Bean Pot fans every year. Beyond that, I don't follow much hockey outside of college teams. I've pretty much lost touch since the Hartford Whalers left Connecticut... I WAS a fan & most of my friends still have the old jerseys. Remember that whale's tail logo? ok, now show your age....... lol
Oh, and we have a New Boston, New Hampshire... It's a really nice town actually.
Don't feel bad- I don't know too much about Canada either. We're even! :)

There's great camping here in Ontario, and you don't have to go too far from Toronto for it. But if you travel 4+ hours north, you start getting some real camping country.
Ontario is freaking huge. Like most of Canada, mostly the southern part is inhabited.

Yeah - posting race for sure!!
Damn staright I remember the Whalers. Saw them play at Maple Leaf Gardens. Same year Rick Vaive started his scoring spree for the Leafs and sored 50+, but I'm not dating myself too bad, as I was only 10 or so...
Howe played a full season for Hartford when he was in his 50's!

So, you're 30 too! Hahahaha! I'm guessing ball park from your post. Yeah, I was young when they were playing. Then I got into skiing and didn't have much time for watching winter sports after that. Now skiing is too d@mn expensive so I've gotten back into watching a bit of hockey.

Don't worry, you're in good company. Being a lifetime Pats and Sox fan (umm, Whalers too), I was a loser for most of my life. Ahhh, feels good to finally win some rather than lose some, then lose some more & keep losing and never winning & feeling like the little engine that could until he FINALLY GOT OVER THAT DAMN HILL!!!
Losing teams have the best fans though. That I know from experience! The yuppies drive up ticket prices when you produce a winning team. Then all the real fans have no choice but to stay home while the businesses snatch up all the tickets and regular families can't afford to go anymore.

hahaha. this has been a fun thread to follow :) yea, Detroit always has it's ups n downs. downs... [clears throat and coughs out lions] [then spits out tigers] but at least these past 2 years without hockey, we've got the Pistons!

I don't mind, hockey is one of those sports that's as fun to watch at the college level as the pros. Like basketball, there seems to be more action when the players are playing for their future rather than keeping a job. I really didn't MISS the NHL this year.

I feel the same way about most sports, football and basketball the most. Hockey, I still think the pros play with their heart. Well, they definately make the least amount of money out of all the sports.

Lol Neo good answer.
As for I honestly am sick of the whiney kids now a days the best players didn't make money like they do now. The Rocket <richard> comes to mind worked for peanuts and played no matter what, think of what the players would do now a days if they split thier head open during a game.... Cedrtainly not wrap it up and continuing playing.
Growing up when I did in Canada and living close to Brantford when I did you grow up a Gretzky fan. Considering what he did in his courier I move to argue that no one should make more now than he did in his prime.... I'd rather watch less talented people who truly love the game that a superstar who only plays for money.
That goes for all sports. If they are that great they will make the difference in endorsements.
Here some one else can have the soap box lol.
