I can w/ the larger ones. I throw in some pellets and a few seconds later there's this "crunch" "crunch".
A year ago I couldn't figure out what the sound was or where it was coming from. It was my large Texas.
anyone else?

Mine are loud eaters, especially my Red Zebra (after all his mouth is the largest!).
When I do stick my hand in, they will come up to "test" me to see if I'm edible. Their little fishy teeth leave what my husband calls "little hickies" on my hand and arm if I'm in there rearranging rocks or plants.
They certainly are entertaining!
