I have a silly question. I use pool filter sand in one of my tanks, and have decided that I want a darker color substrate (the main fish in the tank is mostly white). Instead of trying to switch out, I'm thinking of mixing in some other substrate to add a darker color (on several of my tanks, I have mixed pool filter sand with black sand to give a grey "salt & pepper" look). The color that I want is available in a brown fluorite substrate, but before I try that, I wanted to find out about fluorite. Will it have any impact on the water parameters in the tank? I will not be planting anything in the tank, so the benefit of this substrate will be its color only.

Thanks,
David

I dont think Flourite will affect PH or anything like that. I does however, contain iron and will leach the iron into your water. If you had plants they would suck up this iron. A good clorine remover that also removes heavy metals should help.
