View Full Version : A tour!

This might be a stupid idea, but I thought I'd start a thread about where we keep out tanks around the house - like a little tour of where the tanks are and/or fishrooms (for all you lucky people who have them).
So, I'll start. This is from the back of the apartment toward the front. I didn't include the empty 40g and 55g sitting on the back porch. the back porch is a disaster area.
First there's the guest bedroom with the 10g Multi tank.
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-09/97012-001.jpg
Then there's the dining room. This is the 29g domaine of the helianthus death brigade with the 75g mbuna tank off to the right. (sorry, dining room is a mess... we don't eat in it, just dump crap in it and walk through it...)
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-09/97012-002.jpg
... and the aforementioned 75g mbuna tank
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-09/97012-003.jpg
and in the living room, we have on top the Victorian tank and below the maternity/hospital tank. currently it houses a recovering female fuelleborni that another female fuelleborni beat the living crap out of... (you'll also note the ThinkPad that I am currently typing on sitting on the couch...)

Off the back deck, nevermind the tall weeds/grass. Dry 220's and 100. Just to the right of these tanks under the shed are 15-20 more 25's - 40 breeders. Will add shots of the other 220 and pair of 360's later.

Updated pic of the dry tanks.
Now there are three 220 gallon tanks. Two 6 footers by two feet by 30 inches and one 7 footer by two feet by two feet and a few inches and the 100 gallon long. OH and let's not forget about that 20 gallon long on top of the one 220.

Will toss some pics of the two 360 gallon tanks when I go around the other side of the building. Hey if I panned to the left a little you could see the wife riding the John Deer cutting some grass like a good little wifey......
She kill me if she read that.

It's tough to follow Solace's monster tanks, but here goes. I took these while doing water changes a couple of nights ago.
First up, after walking through the front door, to the right you'll find my 180-gallon mbuna/vic tank (python is refilling the tank as pic is taken):
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-001.jpg
Openning up the right side of the stand, you'll find a 20-gallon growout tank:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-002.jpg
Continuing down the hall to the family room, on the right are a couple of new tanks in a stack. The 55 on top will soon have a few Malawi eye biters; the 40-long on the bottom has a group of Cichlasoma istlanum:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-003.jpg
In the same room, the next stop is the 90-gallon CA/SA tank, and to the right, the 75-gallon home of my Herichthys carpintis family:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-004.jpg
In the stand of the 75 is the 10-gallon hospital tank:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-005.jpg
In the stand of the 90 is the 20-long quarantine tank, soon to be a growout tank:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-006.jpg
Continuing back to the master bedroom (my daughter doesn't want too many tanks out in the public areas of the house, because she thinks her friends will think I'm weird. Tough...they will have to deal with it), on the right is my 75-gallon midas habitat, on the left is another 20-gallon, currently home to about 30-40 Honduran Red Point fry growing out:
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2005-04-28/98989-007.jpg
Finally, on the other side of the master bedroom, on the right is another 20-gallon mbuna/vic growout tank, on the left, from the left, 37-gallon tank housing my Thorichthys aureus albinos, then two 29-gallon tanks, each housing a breeding pair of Honduran Red Points:

Now THAT I'd like to see. My wife, unfortunately, passed away in 1999, which is probably the only reason I've been able to keep this many tanks in the house:razz: . Seriously, though, plans are in the works for a smaller scale setup in the garage...assuming I can finish all my other "in progress" projects, and clean up all the clutter that's out there now!

I've learned a lot building this room of 45 fish tanks and if ever move into another house I'll do it better .

Well I thought I had some pics on my website folder but there not there for some reason so here is just one pic 2 pics put together. R side are 75g with 20g long on top. Custom make 14 foot 3 level stand all one piece. Behind that view is a 3 level rack with 9 40's the big tanks have a 100g long on top and bottom and in the middle is whats called a 125g wide all from glasscages.com 100's are 96X18X18 the wide one is 96X24X18
directly across from that rack is another rack with same tanks.

Wow kurt, that is an awesome fishroom!

How do you change all that water? Heck, how do you keep track of all the maintainence needs?
Is that in your home?
Rocky Mountain Cichlids
01-19-2006, 08:17 PM
HI Rusty, well where do I start lol.
I change all the fry tanks every 3-4 days 25% and my malawi breeders once a week 40% and all my tang breeders 30% every 2 weeks. I use a rio pump that is 800gph hooked up to a 100 foot python hose into the drain in the floor. I use a 400gph for my fry tanks. I clean the the sponge filters every 2 weeks and replace the box filters once a month. Yes it is in the basement of my house. Some people have different ideas for what they want in a house my main concern was a huge basement and a 3 car garage :) .I personally would have prefered a bigger fish room so i have more room to actually work in like it use to be when i first started with 25 fish tanks but i've squeezed in just about as many as I can lol (50 tanks)and it has made it a bit harder to work in but i've gotten use to it. I'd like to move in the next 5yrs and if and when I do I'll try and buy a lot with a huge yard so i can actually have a fish house versus a fish room. Feel free to ask me anything. I've learned a lot putting this fish room in and what I would do differently if I had the chance to start over.

Wow - is this just hobby based for you, or is it professional?

Neo_72 this is still just a hobby for me yes I do make a few $ here and there selling fish but I have a full time professional job. I do this mostly for fun and to keep me out of trouble LOL. It's all in finding the right woman. My last gf didnt support me at all with my fish but my new one is all for it.

Well, glad to hear that! My gf (fiance actually, but that still sounds foolish to me) has a tank now and wants to get a bigger one, but she still isn't crazy about me having a) many tanks, or b) a tank bigger than a 180....so I have some work to do :D
Man, if I ever take that trip out west I'm stopping by!

Thats always the best way to do it, get them involved so its not just your hobby totally its both of yours hobby. I even have my gf's kid helping out. I pay him 5$ a week lol to help me feed fish clean tanks etc etc he's only 9 but I say start em out young. He already wants his own tank in his bed room and well that's gonna happen this wknd a nice 72g bowfront :) deducted from his 5$ a week salary ofcourse LOL just kiddin.

Great setups!
I know how it is about trying to get your significant other involved -- I just upgraded to a 25G tank from my 15 and I'm trying to convince my GF to stock the 15 (she doesn't have to clean it or anything -- just pick out some fish she likes) So far I've gotten a 'maybe'

Argent - good luck on that! :)
RMC - that's so cool he has an interest too. Yeah, he'll have kids of his own before he gets that tank at $5 week! ;)
