By the way, dempseys are mexican (new-world), in case you posted this in the african forums by mistake.
The growth rate will depend on how you feed it, but I'd say you have 5 months or so before it gets a little crowded.:)
Welcome to the forums, by the way!:sygypsy:

Thanks for the quick replys and the welcome :D .oh and all the info of course hehe. I will probably be gettin the 100g for my b-day in julywhich is about 4 months away, if my plan goes awry then i will deffinitly buy at least a 50g for *her?* would a 50 be big enough for long term or would i eventually have to get a bigger one? And do you think that she/he would get along with angelfish or would he/she just rip em to pieces. thanks again for the replys.

A fifty should be good for your JD for life. Go with the hundred though so you can get more fish. :) It is likely that angels would get torn up. They are just not fast enough or aggressive enough to stand up to most other cichlids.

I think that may have been crossed with a Convict. Looking at its body shape and its fins.

i had a matting pair of JD that lived in a 35 long for like.....over a year and were fine. and yes you do have a female. and that is odd that you lfs would put firemouths and jd in the same tank...
