BTW, the other fish in the pic is the fish that I thought was a RD, but others have said Flowerhorn, what do you think?

That other fish in the pic has a 'parrot' head on it. So I would say some type of FH or Parrot.

As for the other I think I have to agree with Rex. He called it on the other thread?

Looks like a deformed devil.

Dempsey88

Deformed....................Really?

Dempsey88

Which one is the so called deformed red devil? 2nd pic or 3rd pic?

Ok Rudy what's a Gald Moderator????

And yeah that's a Frankenstien fish, something just ain't right about his noggin.

Dempsey88

Frankenstein fish as in FLOWERHORN?

Solace
04-04-2005, 12:15 PM
I honestly can't give you an answer on that one. The red/orange fish just has a funky shaped head. It looks like it has a 'parrot' head to me as in those 'parrot fish' except the mouth isn't deformed like the parrots are.

Yeah, you're right, I definitely see "parrot fish" traits, but not entirely "Parrot Fish". I thought there might be some RD characteristics in there too. I give up on that one. I am just going to have to grow it out a bit more, then maybe it may be easier to identify. BTW, have any idea what the other fish is?

BTW, have any idea what the other fish is?

Did it come from the same tank?

In the first photo the red one looks deformed / flowerhorn, however could just be camera angle because in the second one it looks close to normal.

BTW both look like chain store red devils - possibly mixed with something else.

what????
that brown thing is defenently not a devil or any part devil for that matter.

Rex Karr

Actually it definitely is a Red Devil/Midas. Are you joking?

Rudy

Ok Rudy what's a Gald Moderator????

I have been giving up some duties these days so I went from half assed to gald.

No problem though. Dislexia for cure found.

:D

By the way I think they are both flowerhorns/red devils. I still think the slope on the head of the red one looks deformed .

Yeah the red one is one of those fish that would have to pay a scantily clad girly fish money for a date......

Rudy,

That gald thing umm yeah it's clear as mud.

I was galded/gaulded a few times. Wasn't a comfortable situation. - mountain folks term -

No, these fish were in different tanks at the LFS. So, are we concluding that the red one is a RD/FLOWERHORN and the darker one is a RD/MIDAS?

actiualy it looks like a really dark juvi Kraussi to me. but latly my eyes have been playing tricks on me (cost me 10 bucks).
maybe I should lay off the special stuff:rolleyes:

I did find a pic online of a juvenile Kraussi that resembled it very much. This guy is harder to ID that I thought.

Rudy
04-05-2005, 12:07 PM
Absolutely, positively no way that is a Kraussi.

Any chance on getting back to the fish store and seeing what the commons names are so you can be sure it is either a flowerhorn, or a devil. It is nothing more than either of those.

Dempsey, your fish is not a C. kraussi. :) Here (http://community.webshots.com/album/248314470RovmHK) is a link to my kraussi gallery. In particular llook at the pics that show a good view of the head/mouth. The mouth shape of a kraussi (aka basketmouth) is quite different from that of an Amphilophus. :)

i think the brown one is a rd/midas. it is not uncommon for them to be a dark color and then change to a lighter orange as they develop. hell, every red devil i've had started out brown like that, then ended up being totally orange

I can't resist. (BTW, I'm stealing this from a local board):

Thats the funniest shaped Koi I have ever seen.
--Picklefish (see http://www.aquacharlotte.com/)

(Also, all in fun: I have a red/white midas/rd, so I'm allowed to say things like this)

Dempsey88
04-05-2005, 04:15 PM
Yeah Jason_S, I see the difference in the mouth area.

Rudy, the tanks where I picked these guys out of were filled with different species of cichlids. They were mixed tanks. There werent any names listed. They looked the most "unique", so I picked them out. Hey guys, thanks for the help. RD,MIDAS or FH, whatever these fish are, I will be posting pics in a couple of weeks to let you see how they are growing. Maybe after a while, they will start to resemble more what we presume them to be. Thanks again. - Dempsey

The orange fish to me looks like a parrot's head but it is to skinny to be a parrot i think he is a mix oa parrot and convict or somthing like that. Nice fish though.
