I got this guy from a tank that was labelled haiti cichlids. Curiousity got me and I had to get one. Which is it? About 1 inch long.

When you moved the picture I lost the image so I went back and attached a different image. It's the right fish right?

I really don't have ANY experiance with Haitiensis or Tetracanthus aside from owning 2 Tetracanthus fry for about 5 hours (they were just to small for the other fish in the tank), and spending a lot of time staring at the MONSTER specimens of both at the ACA 2002 Show. So I really don't even want to guess. But I will jsut say that you need to make sure you keep him in slightly brackish water until you identify him. Tetracanthus can be found in brackish water, but also in freshwater so its not that inportant for them. But Haitiensis are only found in brackish water I believe. I think CichlidScenes large Haitiensis actually died because he quit adding salt to the water.

at, that size it's pretty hard to identify, but for the most part, the haitian cichlid is normally haitiaensis, from haiti, while tertacanthus is from cuba, a few more inches you will be able to make a positive identification

Yup that is the right one. I am leaning toward Cuban as he seems to have developed a marble like pattern to him. Unfortunately I still don't have a haitienses.
