I'm not seeing the picture, but there are two names being used that are in conflict.

Nandopsis tetracanthus is commonly known as the Cuban Cichlid. But I saw the name Haiti Cichlid in the post. The Haitian Cichlid is Nandopsis haitiensis (also commonly known as the Odo, but more frequently the Haitian).

Both fish, while easily distinguished, feature whitish or light gray backgrounds with a black or dark mottling pattern on top. As juveniles, they are very difficult to tell apart (easy as adults). The tetracanthus often has a red ridge to its dorsal fin at a young age and the hatiensis is often more peppered looking rather than marbled (like the tetracanthus). Both fish can get very large (I've seen Haitians 15" long).

Send the picture again and I'll I.D. it for you.

Here is a pic chc. I understand the difference between the two. The post was to tell which one it was. I saw them at a store near me labelled as haiti cichlids which got me excited. I brought it home and thought maybe they meant Cuban and screwed up the label. I have now almost made myself sure it is in fact a cuban.
What do you think

Sorry for the pic. Tom was supposed to send me a new camera, but life must be to busy in Mexico

Really need a better picture to be sure.

Even though I can't make out the marbled pattern very well, I still think it's a tetracanthus based on the spot on the base of the tail.

Not positive on that I.D. though......... could you send another?
