i have questions about sand because im considering in a new tank i geting.does it get sucked up in the filter.does the syphone suck it up.basickly what are thepros abd cons of sand???

I personally don't use sand anymore because the syphone will suck some of it up. and when the fish get active and kicks it up it will get sucked up by your filter. hope this helps

Yeah, the syphon can suck up some sand, and the filter might suck some up to (although this shouldn't hurt the filter unless it is a really cheap one).

I have sand in all but 2 of my tanks. I just looks good :)

my friend had sand in his 30gl and the sand always seemed to get sucked up.when it got sucked up it clogged the filter and it wouldnt work. He had to take it outside rinse it out with the hose then rinse it out in the sink with hot water to kill germs from outside.

This sounds stupid but get some pantiehose and cut out a square big enough to fit around your filter pickups and sand will get trapped in it and not in your filter. Sometimes sand will get cought in the impeller and grind so if you get sand take my advice and nothing will get in it :) it will also keep out the fecese so you'll have to siphon a bit more often.
