In the wild, frontosas like to eat fish that can fit into their mouthes

try feeding them baccon and eggs, and don't forget to use brown toast for their health.

I wouldn't take the above advice seriously.... and please don't post stuff like this. We had one member dump 4 cups of chlorine in his aquarium because he heard it would help get rid of algae. The algae dried up pretty quick... but needless to say all of his fish died too.

As for your fronts, feed them beef heart (you can buy it at the local fish store), krill and brine shrimp. They love this stuff. Also I know that my front has done quite well on Hikari pellets, he collects as many as he can in his mouth and then hides as he munches on them. Fronts need high levels of protein and they get big (which you probably already know). I hope you have him in a 4-foot tank, in about a years time he will be between 6-10 inches.

good luck...

Don't give your frontosa beef heart, that is not good for fish. But yes, they are a piscavore and like plenty of protein. Try some shrimp, fish pieces or even feeder fish.

Beef is very different to fish meat.

I agree with cichlid boy-I would forget the live feeder fish. You never know what disease or parasite they will bring in with them.

Of course, if you have other breeding fish (and fry to cull) or enough space for a small tank of livebearers, you could easily produce your own feeders and ensure that they're healthy.

I feed my frontosa New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula. He gobbles it like crazy and it is good for him, too. No risk of parasites, bloat, etc.

It keeps his color up and has helped him grow pretty well.

I make a European shrimp mix and add frozen brine shrimp. My fronts are very fussy eaters. They like this mix. They get the ESM twice a week. Other days, Hikari sinking pellets, Hikari carnivore pellets (there's a big red catfish on the front - they love this). Once in a long while, I'll give them what they're always crazy about, frozen brine shrimp.

I feed my fish shrimp mix too. They all go crazy for it, even the Altocomps. It's a mess while you're making it, but well worth it and one recipe lasts forever! IMHO it's pretty good stuff all around though probably not perfect for every fish.
