Nice fish. I think your Blochii is actually a Pimelodus maculatus :)

i have pims! GREAT fish- so active!!! wish i could buy some polypt. here!!!! SO hard to find, and when you do they range $400-$1200 sucks HARD

I posted pics of that catfish on another site for ID purposes. The responses I got were that it was probably P. pictus but could also be P. blochii. No one mentioned maculatus so after reading your post I looked up P. maculatus. Going by the pics of all 3 species on planetcatfish.com I still think it's a blochii. One of the pics in particular looked exactly like mine while the spotted pattern on the maculatus was much more pronounced. Also, planetcatfish said the max. size for maculatus is around 4.5". I measured my cat right after I got it and it was around 6.5" SL and I think it's grown a bit since then. :)

*edit...having said what I did above about the max. size of a maculatus I had to add that I just realized one of the pics of P. maculatus on planetcatfish.com has an adult maculatus in front of a 6" ruler and the catfish is bigger. So obviously they can grow a bit larger than 4.8" :rofl2:
