Just picked up a lil one of these guys this last weekend....
A very a-typical looking bristlenose...It is black with shiny lil blue/white dots like a juvenile Tropheus dubousi has...white/blue stripe on its trailing edge of its dorsal and tail fins, and fairly large bristles for only being about an inch long...
So does anyone have any good info or links on these guys? So far I just have him in a ten with my guppies untill he gets a bit bigger....He'll get a bigger tank later...

Reviving an old thread here.
So, Seedy...how's this pleco going (or gone?)? I just saw one on a list (Somethingsphishy.com) and was trying to get more info. Planetcatfish.com has a very nice pic of the L059, but nothing on the L059a. How does the appearance compare to the L059 (which I truly love)? Any comments on this fish would be welcome (the photo on Somethingsphishy.com is terrible...just a black blob  ).

Hey fish speaker!
thanks for asking, but I was never able to get the fish eating and acclimated...He, and all the other BNs from that group never made it :( I suspect they were not treated that great by the wholesaler...

Sorry to hear that. :( That sounds like my usual luck with "non-standard" plecos. Over the past year, I've (killed? lost?) 1 dull-eyed royal, 1 papa panaque, a mango, a couple of L204s (actually, I give credit to my uaru group for one death: I watched as they pulled one by the tail out of a driftwood cave. He eventually got away and hid so I couldn't rescue him, but I found him dead the next morning...shattering my belief that uaru are peaceful fish...they have also beaten the living *edit* out of a discus that was temporarily in their tank). I currently have 1 L-200, 1 queen arabesque, 1 butterfly, 1 rhino and many albino bristlenoses...and then there's one that was sent to me as a surprise by a seller that I bought some fish from, and I'm not sure what it is.
Not sure I'm going to try the L059a yet, but it was interesting to find on the list. I'm trying to find out what the size is. The pic for the L059 on planetcatfish.com is breathtaking, but I haven't seen any great shots of this one (L059a).
