For anyone who wonders about changing tank conditions (decorations etc) as an impetus for spawning.
My juli pair have been firmly bonded for several years with no signs of instability although I'd begun to wonder recently. They used to spawn once a month, but they'd quit.
I'm in the process of preparing the tank for new inhabitants and last night I removed all the rocks to do a very thorough vacuum job. I put three back in for a hiding spot, and the first thing I notice when I came home this afternoon is spawning julis.
They did this to me once before too. When we moved I had them in a plastic bucket with a sponge filter, heater, loaded bio wheels, and piece of driftwood. They were supposed to live in the bucket for a week until we could make sure their tank was ready, but two days after the move, they were spawning on the driftwood. Needless to say, their move in date was a bit sooner . . .
Those new fish are going to have to come soon or they're going to be living in a species tank.
