Africans or American?

Which ones are easier to breed? And what are pros and cons of each thx. :D

hmm I'm not sure, I like the kribs, and the convicts weren't seeming too bad, I like the blueish "not so aggressive" africans and the yellows

Um lets say sticking with africans which on <tdre easiest to breed besides the kribs?

those blue and red ones u are refering to were probably Kenyi and Red Zebras. theyre very agressive once they mature.

Yellow Labs are very easy to breed, and so are kribs, like u said.

Convicts, are really easy to breed, i believe they are pretty much the easiest fish to breed, lol. but they are little punks some times.

how ig of an aquarium are u thinking of setting up?..

In my experience, South American cichlids are way easier to keep when it comes to water conditions. South Americans easily adapt to what ever water you put them in. They are strong little suckers. Don't get me wrong, you should always have clean water conditions for you fish but with these, things like; ph, gh, and kh aren't really a factor you have to deal with. That takes all of bs out of maintaining ideal water conditions for your tank. Of course I prefer to keep Africans because I like to do everything the hard way, plus Africans are much more pleasant to look at.

actually, with S Americans. U DO need to kee na eye on ph and gh.

In an african the Ph needs to be at least 8.2 with a gh of over 13

in a S. American. \a ph of 6.5-7.0 depending on the species, and a lower gh.

Must be lucky cause I had 55g with South Americans in it for three years and the only water test I ever did was at the lfs to see if the tank had cycled with my danios before I added my Cichlids. Now, with the Africans, I test all of the time.

in reality, you cna put africans in low ph, and s americans in high ph...and even mix them if the tank is big enough.

but if u want youre fish to be stressed out less, and happie, bbe able to breed, and colorise to their true potential. u need certain perameters for the fish, s americans in low ph, africans in high. and all that other stuff.

I love fish, and i just move a month ago so i have no fish at the moment but at the old house i had decent water so i kept south american cichlids, and i tested the tap water in the new house (well water) its hard as nails and the ph is 8. so without doctoring my water every water change i have begun to set my tanks up as africans. I will also keep south americans as well but thats only because i have a crapy 100 gallon tank that i will doctor the water in and do my water changes out of that. its not hard to keep the ph low or high. its just one less thing you have to do when you do water changes. on African tanks it is wise to over populate the tank it's not uncommon to have 25 fish in a 75 gallon. I am running 2 fuval 404's and a emperor 400 on my 75 gallon, and that should be just fine. I will also tell you that africans are more expensive than americans but in the long run its worth it if you can swing it. I could go on and on. but for good prices and service i always use pet solution. they will have everything you need. www.petsolutions.com I have a 125g, 75g, 2 55g 1 40g and and 6 ten gal and 3 20 gal for breeder tanks. they have saved my a boat load of money. if i order on monday its here on wenesday. now picking african fish out can be tricky so make sure you go to the african forum to make sure what you want will work.
