My Red Empress couple decided to get it on yesterday. The female was clearly set on her mate, which is a beautiful Red Emp late teen, but that did not stop my Albino Red and O.Lithobates from trying to get in on the action. The RE and OL actually got into some mouth to mouth combat. The RE lips are sort of torn up today so I medicated the tank.
My question: Should I expect to see some weird looking fish coming out of her mouth? I mean, she was clearly with the RE male, but the Albino Red and OL were both shaking their tails nearby.
Another thing of interest. I have a few spawning caves set up but this couple chose to use a horizontal rock right out in the middle of the aquarium. Some of her eggs got caught in the filter flow, and she had to venture out and claim them. These fish never stop amazing me.
