that circular spot in the center is strange to me... maybe a hybrid, or a really weird looking convict..

Good observation punky...there seems to be weakly defined ocellus on the dorsal fin as well. The jewel spots are also out of place on a con. This bloodline is likely not pure nigrofasciatus.

Thank you all. If its not a pure convict, any ideas what the mix is?

I found it in a tank full of convicts with some Firemouths and Blackbelts. It did not have a partner even though there were a lot of of male convicts. She was so feisty I had to take her. I paid $ 3.00.

i would be geussign firemouthX more likely (red underbelly extends on this fish to the face like a meeki, also was housed with them so its not rocket science)
although it does have spot similar to those ive seen on certain varieties of synspillum.

I saw a convict X red devil on the weekend.... looked unreal! as big as a devil with dark red through the body and convict markings and it wanted to bite my finger off just like a devil
