Have you guys ever heard of this fish? I can't find one even doing a search. The lfs said he's so new they haven't given a genus yet.

Hangs out at the river mouths in L. tanganyika looks like a cross between a tetracanthus and buffalo head.
If I ever see him again I'll take a pic. he's been in hiding ever since I put him in the tank

Well the reason I haven't seen him again is because he died, here's a picture of him dead and he's good lookin even dead.

Notice the gash in the top of his head I don't know if this was the cause of death awesome fish he would skip around the bottom like a goby.

I figured out what he is "Steatocranus Kingabwa" I noticed Armkes has them and boxlot fish. Its amazing how the name changes by the time it gets to the lfs.

sorry your fish didn't make it--do you think that you'll be able to get more?

They are primative looking. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Are they difficult to keep?

I can get more the lfs manager has some at his home, but I over did it again on the tang tank I probaly ought to hold off for now.
Didn't have him long enough to figure out if he was difficult to keep, I think the C.Ndobhoi/ Reganis/caudopunks did him in.

Ya Tangs can get violent......

I have surpassed my load too.

I have two ocellatus left, one male and female. I have a feeling they swam too close to the comp or Frontosa one night.

The others are well though......and I too am pushing the barrier as far as "How many fish can I keep in one tank".

26 in a 75 and thats it......DAMN those Fronts big quick and she may eat me out of house and home. Great fish though! I never though a fish had personality. She actually come up to the edge of the tank when my cat wants to play (its like a relationship or something).

I am still holding out for the new house and 700 gallon tank. (holding pattern) ...like a hawk.....just give me an unfinished basement!

Still it is a great tank. I actually expected the 5 Julies in there to make war.......................................but not yet...

i recently picked up some relatively new imports that look exactly like that-
they were listed as lamprologus congoensis, they're def. not a steat., i have 3 species of those... sorry, no pics(no camera)- but i'm pretty sure
some dealers do, or a link exists........ 8)

Now I'm really confused, I noticed he looked like lamprologus congoensis and he looks like the steatocranus tinanti in juvenile form, and then I just read an article in cichlid news on Neolamprologus kasanga?
These look just like tetracanthus though.

Thanks for the reply mbunaman.
