I have been pronouncing Malawi wrong all this time, it took this movie to for me to hear the right pronunctiation. Don't you just hate it when that aquarium hits the ground? I still thinks its wrong to keep a fish in a blender.

Don't base anything on that movie. He claimed the lionfish had Malawi bloat.

How were you pronouncing Malawi? How about mbuna? :?

that 'malawi bloat' thing had me shaking my head, too, when i watched that movie. we were talking about this very same thing in one of the earlier threads when the site first came back up.

Yeah "Malawi Bloat" , it effects the gills

I pronounce Malawi as -Mala-why- not Mal-ouwee
Mbuna is M-buna or mahbuna

I pronounce it Mah-lah-wee and em-bu-nah. I think the real trick is to avoid ever saying these words aloud. :D

Make all the fun you want, I'm from SoCal. :D

They pronounce Miami "Mi-am-ah" and Prague rhymes with "leg" here. Those are both names of cities here.

I don't wanna hear it: in Iowa, there are towns called "Nevada" pronounced Nuh-vay'-duh and "Madrid" pronounced Ma'-drid where the "a" is like in Sally. :)

This is cool. :) I'm sure everyone has had to improvise with pointing fingers at some time or another, but what I hate is if they try and correct me. I usually just try to continue talking like I didn't hear them. We've got a hobby we can't even say, as for malawi (muh-lou-ee) and Mbuna I usually (hummm the M) then tuna (buna)

I got into it once with some lfs girl about pronouncing betta (bet-tah). She corrected me by telling me it was bay-ta. Of course I looked it up in the dictionary as soon as I got home but what difference did it make anyway? I think it just irritated me that some child was trying to correct my speech when they can't even pronounce Miami or Prague in this state.
